My first pair of headphones was an over ear model from Sony if I remember right. The thing with headphones is that you kinda stick with the type you liked first. Like I said for me it’s the over ear headphones, maybe for others it’s the in ear headphones or on ear headphones.
Speaking of on ear headphones I’ve seen this question getting asked a lot: which are more comfortable on ear or over ear headphones?
Well they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Personally I think that over ear headphones are more comfortable but let’s go a bit deeper into this problem.
On ear headphones don’t tend to sweat as much as over ear headphones which means you can wear them for longer periods of time. Another aspect is the weight. On ear headphones weigh less than over ears, not much but when you’ve been wearing your headphones for a longer period the weight difference can be noticed.
Now when it comes to over ear headphones, most people buy them because they provide better noise isolation from the outside. Of course there are active noise cancelling headphones which completely block outside noise. But even regular over ear headphones are still way better at isolating outside noise than on ear headphones.
As for how comfortable over ear headphones are, well… they can be either very comfortable or very uncomfortable. Don’t get anything that doesn’t have a nicely padded headband.
Over ear headphones sweat a lot more than on ear models. I found that synthetic materials are actually better in this situation than real leather.
As I said previously personally I’m an over ear headphones guy, but that’s only because I really liked them from the start and I think it would be hard for me to get used to a different kind of headphones now. All of my headphones right now are over ear.
How comfortable the headphones are also depends a lot on the manufacturer. For example you can find great sounding headphones but when it comes to comfortability they’re crap, and vice versa.
Well I really don’t know what else to say on this subject so hopefully I haven’t wasted your time too much. Cheers.
